Oregon Rec Christmas Programs

City of Oregon Residential Christmas Deco Contest – “Winter Wonder Lights” A collaboration with city council member Kathy Pollauf and local Oregon businesses to bring an annual residential Christmas deco contest. Winners receive a $500 Visa Card (sponsored by local businesses). Guest judges are brought in from surrounding communities outside of Oregon to judge. A great addition to our Oregon holiday festivities!

City of Oregon Tree Lighting – Annual Christmas tree lighting to be held in front of municipal building at 5330 Seaman Rd in Oregon. Christmas carolers, dancers, and Christmas music!  Coffee and hot chocolate provided along with doughnuts and cookies in the City Council chambers. Santa and Mrs. Claus are regularly in attendance for this event!

Letters to Santa – K thru 2nd grade students at Coy, Starr, and Jerusalem elementary write letters to Santa Claus. Those letters are collected and delivered to the North Pole. Once Santa has written a personalized reply to each child those letters are returned to the Oregon Rec Department and delivered back to the elementary schools. The joy in the children’s faces reading their letters makes the season a little more special!

Kids Say the Darnedest Xmas Things – Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders at Coy, Starr, and Jerusalem elementary are interviewed on camera and asked several questions pertaining to Christmas. Their inspired, clever, intellectual, and quite humorous responses make for an entertaining highlight reel of kids talking about one of their favorite times of the year!! Videos are posted on our You Tube channel as well as our Facebook page.

Santa Dash – This event is an official Toys for Tots Drive with the USMC on site collecting toys that the participants and spectators donate. With Christmas music playing aloud, 5 member teams dash through a Christmas themed course while completing specific tasks along the way such as loading presents, harnessing reindeer, pulling Santa’s sled, eating cookies and carrots, and much more!! Each team has one Santa, two elves and two reindeer. This is so fun!!! A championship trophy is awarded for fastest time, and a second trophy is awarded for “holiday spirit” based on best elf, reindeer, and Santa outfits. We foresee this event growing annually.
